Eyelash Extensions
What is the difference between classic and volume eyelash extension?
Classic eyelash extension is a technique where one eyelash extension is applied on one natural lash (1:1). Volume techniques allow us to apply multiple extensions (2-6 extensions) to one isolated natural lash. The number value followed by the “D” represents how many lashes will be applied to one natural lash. For example, 2-6D means 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 extensions applied to every one natural lash. The volume technique (also known as Russian volume) masterfully achieves this with far thinner lashes than typically used for classic lash extensions. The result is a full lush lash line that appears fluffy and soft while also maintaining the health and safety of our client’s natural lashes. Volume lashes are especially great for clients who do not have a lot of lashes, have sparse lashes, bald spots or just want a more dramatic look without having to use a thicker lash. Once you go volume, you will never want to go back to classic lash extensions! At Lash & Brow Bar by Tina, we customize and recommend the look based on our client’s eyes and face shape (natural, dramatic, round, cat-eye, kitten, doll-eye look).
What kind of eyelash extensions and adhesives do you use?
Only a high quality faux mink lashes are used for our volume eyelash extensions (cruelty-free). They are fluffy, soft, and virtually feel weightless. They have a deep, rich black finish and come in various diameters, lengths and curls. We use FDA and Health Canada approved adhesive. The main ingredient in our adhesive is cyanoacrylate and is paraben and formaldehyde-free
Why do you use faux mink, and not silk extensions?
Faux Mink
These are the most popular extensions used by lash artists today. These man made, poly-fiber lashes come in a variety of lengths, diameters and curls, have good flexibility and remain somewhat natural looking depending on the length. They’re designed to imitate real mink fur, but lash artists and clients both love this of extension type because the curl is permanent and they’re low maintenance. No need to curl or put mascara on these type of extensions. The faux mink lashes are a little more bold, slightly glossier than the silk and real mink. Because of their variety of size and length they’re great for customizing different looks for each client.
Silk
These are the mid-weight type of lash extensions, and are finer and more flexible than the synthetic type which makes their retention slightly better. Because of their lightweight they are good to use on older clients or clients with weak and flimsy natural lashes. Like synthetic lashes, silk come in a variety of curls and lengths. These types of extensions also hold their curl but the curl tends to be less uniform than the faux mink lashes. Silk lashes tend to be thicker than any other type of extensions and also have that rich black color. They tend to be the least comfortable type of extension and are best used for special occasions.
I think I am having an allergic reaction to the adhesive. What do I do?
Allergic reactions to the adhesive are very rare (one in several thousand) and reactions can be treated. If you see redness and swelling around the eyes, you may be allergic to the adhesive. Please contact Lash & Brow Bar by Tina and schedule for a removal. Redness and swelling should subside in a few days, however, if you still have irritation, we recommend consulting with your physician.
What do I have to prepare on the day of my eyelash extensions appointment?
Please arrive without any eye makeup on your appointment day. No perming or curling your eyelashes before your eyelash extension appointment. Also, we recommend you to wash your hair before the eyelash appointment, as you will not be able to wet your eyelashes for at least 24-48 hours.
Who should not get eyelash extensions?
- You had eye surgery in the past 3 months (e.g. Lasik)
- You have any eye conditions or sensitivities that will affect the service.
- You have recently permed, tinted or lifted your natural lashes.
- You do not follow instructions well and are unable to maintain the aftercare guidelines. If you do not understand the requirements before and after the lash application, this is probably not a service for you.
- You rub your eyes frequently. If you rub your eyes frequently due to allergies, or if rubbing your eyes is just a habit, we do not suggest this service.
- You have highly sensitive skin. We do not recommend lash extensions if you experience irritation around the eye area after using skincare or makeup.
- You are allergic to cyanoacrylate, which is the main ingredient in any adhesive.
- You are sick or feeling ill. If you have a cold or sinus infection, we suggest waiting to get lash extensions until you are feeling 100% better. Illness plays a large role in poor retention of lash extensions.
- Your natural eyelashes are very curly. If your natural lashes are very curly you are not a good candidate for extensions. Curly lashes tend to dramatically shorten the wear time of lash extensions.
- You do not have natural eyelashes. If you do not have natural lashes, you will be unable to wear extensions. Extensions must be placed on the natural eyelash, not directly on the skin. Consider using a different form of eyelash treatments.
How long do eyelash extensions last?
Lash extensions last through a full growth cycle of natural eyelashes, typically six to eight weeks. That said, because each person’s lash growth is somewhat variable (just hair growth), our clients come for their regular fill every 2-3 weeks for classics (3-4 weeks for volume lashes) to maintain a full look. The adhesive is designed to last until the lashes naturally fall out, though the extensions may fall out faster if clients have oily skin, use oil-based eye makeup and remover or rub eyes regularly. The longevity of eyelash extensions also depends on the length of the client’s natural eyelash growth cycle and how well and thoroughly clients follow aftercare instructions.
We open a new adhesive every 4 weeks and throw away the old one. This is due to the fact that the main ingredient in adhesives, cyanoacrylate, becomes less effective after 4 weeks so the bonding becomes less strong. We understand that our clients want a longer retention period for their eyelash extensions, so we do our part in every way for maximum retention of the eyelash extensions (e.g. controlling room temperature and humidity level to maximize adhesive bondage, using a new drop of glue every 30 minutes during the procedure).
Will your natural lashes get damaged?
If applied correctly and properly, they are safe and do not ruin the health of your natural lashes. Be sure not to rub your eyes or tug or pull on the extensions because this can cause lash loss and even damage to your natural lashes.
Do you do fills on other lash artist’s work?
We do fills on other artist’s work. Additional $10 for classic fills and $20 for volume fill is added to the service.
Can I bring my friends/children/pets?
For safety and hygienic reasons, please do not bring your friends, children or pets. Our studio is designed to have one client and one technician at each appointment.
I wear contact lenses. Can I get eyelash extensions?
Absolutely. Please wear your glasses or bring contact lens solution and container to your appointment.
Can pregnant/breastfeeding moms get eyelash extensions?
Yes. Pregnancy is a beautiful and sensitive time, and adding glamour and doing things for yourself like enhancing your appearance can boost your self-esteem and build confidence.

Products are applied only to the sculpted lashes and do not come into contact with the skin or inner eye area, limiting the amount of irritation. Are there any YUMI™ Lash Lift after care rules?
Just one! Do not wash or wet your lashes for at least 24 hours after receiving the treatment. The product requires 24 hours to reach its maximum lifting potential. During the 24-hour period please avoid the use of eye makeup, saunas, swimming, steam rooms, cutting onions, tears, etc. Moisture to the lashes will weaken the YUMI™ product. Day to day care of your YUMI™ Lash Lift is easy! Feel free to wash your face and lashes as usual after the 24 hours are up!
I love my YUMI™ Lash Lift! When can I book my next one?
The lift lasts 8-12 weeks, which is the natural life cycle of an eyelash. Our YUMI™ technicians can suggest when to schedule your next lash lift.
Will I be required to purchase any product?
No. However, we highly recommend purchasing the YUMI™ Clear Mascara ($100 to purchase). The mascara conditions and nourishes your lashes in-between lash lift and tint treatments. Its ability to penetrate and target the natural keratin within the hair helps to recover lash structure and repairs problematic eyelash issues. YUMI™ mascara is important to prevent lashes from becoming dry and fragile and can be used as a primer before applying regular mascara. YUMI™ Clear Mascara will also protect your lashes from the sun, wind and water, perfect to take on vacation!
